2025 SGT Sam Nutter Run Honoree

MSG Thomas Calvo, a devoted husband, father, friend, and leader, has dedicated his
life to serving others. Born in New Brunswick and raised in Manville, New Jersey,
Thomas proudly served in the New Jersey Army National Guard for 16 years and
continues to serve to this day. His service included deployments to Afghanistan in 2012,
Jordan in 2019, and Iraq in 2024.

While deployed in Iraq, MSG Calvo became gravely ill and was medevacked to Germany for emergency surgery. He survived the surgery but was soon faced with a devastating
diagnosis: stage 4 colon cancer. Since March of last year, MSG Calvo has been
courageously battling cancer, undergoing intensive chemotherapy and medical testing
at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland and New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New
York City. He frequently travels long distances between these locations to continue his
life-saving treatments.

As a loving husband, father, and respected leader, MSG Calvo remains an inspiration to
those around him. However, his battle is not over—he still urgently needs a liver
transplant to complete his recovery and work toward becoming cancer-free.
Let’s stand with MSG Calvo and support him in his fight. Together, we can help him on
his journey to healing and hope.
