2026 SGT Sam Nutter Run Honoree
SPC Mitchell, Gregory
Specialist Gregory “Mitch” Mitchell was born in New Brunswick, NJ, and raised in Plainsboro and Alloway. Motivated, intelligent, and athletic, he grew up playing lacrosse, football, and snowboarding, and was known for his discipline, work ethic, and respect for others.

Driven to serve, Gregory enlisted in the New Jersey National Guard in 2020 and served with Bravo Troop in the 102nd Calvary Unit in West Orange, NJ. He deployed to Syria in 2024 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, safely returning home before Christmas of that year and resuming civilian work in April 2025.

In August 2025, Gregory was involved in a severe car accident that resulted in three brain bleeds and a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The injury required 24/7 supervision, along with intensive speech, physical, and occupational therapy. His younger brother, Steven, relocated from Texas to assist with daily caregiving and medical appointments.

Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Gregory has made significant progress and continues to exceed medical expectations. Before the accident, he contributed financially at home, and his inability to work has placed strain on his family as they manage caregiving expenses and household needs, compounded by the loss of a family vehicle in the accident.

Through it all, Gregory has remained resilient, and the support from friends, family, and fellow soldiers has been a humbling reminder of the respect he has earned from those around him.
Gregory has been selected as the Sergeant Nutter Run 2026 Beneficiary. All proceeds, donations, and support generated through the run will directly aid in his continued recovery and help relieve the financial hardships faced by his family.
